Hachinohe is a city characterized by its markets.
In Hachinohe, I visit Mutsu-Minato Market in the morning. Large wholesale stores and the retail market with individual stores look like a bulwark to protect local food rather than a supermarket even if that is an illusion. Fish and other dishes bought at the retail market and rice and soup served at the counter are my breakfast.
Tatehana Peer Morning Market is held in the port on Sunday. 80,000 people visit at maximum. Hachinohe is a large port, so many rich fish dishes are served but other dishes as well. Even if mushroom logs were within expectation, shops of sowing machine and birdcage and the car exhibition space surprised me.
Hachishoku Center is a market which many one day tours from Tokyo visit, and has 60 stores and 10 restaurants in a building of 7,000m2. The price of the piece is a little higher than Mutsu-Minato, and it orients a bulk buying customer.
Hachishoku Center opened in 1980. Since Mutsu Minato Market was too crowded with shoppers, the relocation was considered. Young shop owners formed a union and realized Hachishoku Center. Meanwhile, the relocated Mutsu Minato Sunday Morning Market was Tatehana Peer Morning Market. Besides, the temporary market of Tatehana Market, which was suspended due to the seismic damage, was upgraded to a permanent morning market. Every time a problem arises, Hachinohe markets had found solutions and expanded.
Well, Hachinohe is a town with the power to grow intangible factors.
