The Carpathian Mountains are a treasury of attractive wooden architecture.
The Carpathian Mountains run from Slovakia and Poland to Romania via western Ukraine. The representative is a church built with a log and finished with a layer of small boards. A graceful example in Ukaraine is the church in Kryvorivnya.
Rather than dividing each country by mountains, a view of architecture is shared in the mountains. The detail shows the richness of the forest. Meanwhile, differences among countries also exist. The heavily-built form is the Ukrainian characteristic.
As times went by, the number of roofs increased. That seems to be the character of Ukrainian architecture.
The heavily-built form looks like an expression of calmness. It reminds me of the difference between a wooden tower in East Asia. It is slender in Japan, meanwhile, the lower layers become wider in Korea and China. Korea, China and Ukraine has been a place where ethnic groups have come and gone. Is there a correlation between unstable situations and the form?
In the 19th century, a beautiful church finished with embossed tin plates also appeared. I don't know the relevance, but it is a work of the era when Ukrainian nationalism increased.
Now, Chernivtsi, at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, is one of the refuges.
